Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval - award amount (up to $200 -000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.
Duties
- Duties are but not limited to: The incumbent practices in Mental Health services as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to provide a full range of services in a variety of settings - emphasizing quality - timeliness - and the advancement of the Veterans Affairs (VA) mission
- The PMHNP provides advanced clinical practice - consultation - and management
- These skills enable the Advance Practice Nurse (APN) to anticipate and implement preventive health measures with a strong emphasis on patient/significant other/family education as well as illness management of mental health care/specialty care
- The PMHNP practices to the full extent of their education - training - and certification
- Core functions are outlined in the clinical privileges that correspond with this position
- The PMHNP has prescriptive authority - if required - as indicated by their position
- All Nurse Practitioners assigned to Mental Health Service will meet basic requirements and hold a degree of Master's level or higher from a or university
- Each Nurse Practitioner will establish and maintain professional relationships within Mental Health Service and with other services within the medical center
- Also: Uses advanced clinical judgment to independently provide evidence-based treatment to Veterans with acute or chronic mental illness including use of psychotropic medications - psychotherapy - and other modalities
- Provides patient and family education on medical/mental health conditions - preventive measures - and prescribed treatments
- Demonstrates leadership and engages in collaboration with other mental health and specialty care professionals while involving Veterans and their families (as appropriate) - in treatment plan development
- Assesses and adjusts the plan of care as needed to achieve optimal patient outcomes Counsels and treats patients with substance use disorders
- Orders and interprets diagnostic studies Initiates referrals/consults to specialty services Exemplifies the ICARE core values of-Integrity - Commitment - Advocacy - Respect - and Excellence Preferred Experience: Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) certification 2+ years of practice as psychiatric NP Pay: Competitive salary - regular salary increases - potential for performance awards Paid Time Off: 50 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave - 13 days of sick leave - 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory Work Schedule: Full-Time - 10-12hr shifts - 3-4nights/week - overnights
