Summary
The Advanced Practice Nurse {APN) II Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner {PMHNP) practices in Mental Health {MH) to provide a full range of services emphasizing quality - timeliness - and the advancement of the Veterans Affairs {VA) mission. This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program.
Duties
- Duties include but not limited to: Assess status of veterans with serious mental illness - and planning - intervening and evaluating indicated actions
- Knowledge of the principles - concepts - theories - and methodology of General Nursing Practice and Mental Health Nursing practice
- Complete history and physical on all new admissions
- Participate in the interdisciplinary team in development of a comprehensive plan of care for each patient
- Knowledge of normal developmental theory including the aging process and basic concepts of gerontology - knowledge of adult and geriatric psychology - and knowledge of the special needs of the physically disabled and the frail elderly
- Complete some skilled nurse functions such as completing primary care clinical reminders - providing medication education and disease education - and obtaining lab work
- Knowledge of VHA programs as well as community housing programs that serve the homeless
- Skill is using computer applications related to data collection and interpretation - program evaluation - and clinical services
- Ability to communicate both orally and in writing with people from diverse backgrounds
- Ability to function independently - meets deadlines - and function under pressure
