Duties

• The Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) Certified Nurse Practitioner (NP) practices in Medicine Service to provide a full range of services emphasizing quality - timeliness - and the advancement of the Veterans Affairs (VA) mission
• The NP provides advanced clinical practice - consultation - and management
• The NP practices to the full extent of their education - training - and certification
• Core functions are outlined in the clinical privileges that correspond with this position
• The NP has prescriptive authority for a panel of patients or program as indicated by their position
• FUNCTIONS OF ASSIGNED DUTIES: The NP is a licensed independent practitioner with advanced education and national certification who provides evidence-based care for a population of patients
• Independently manages a panel of patients with acute and chronic neurological conditions with an emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention using evidence-based practice
• Develops and implements an individualized plan to achieve optimal population health and disease management
• Demonstrates leadership and works collaboratively with the neurology team
• Orders and interprets labs - tests - and diagnostic studies
• Prescribes pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions
• Initiates referrals and consults to specialty services
• Serves as consultant and provides resources to other departments within the medical center
• Provides education to patients and their families
• Assesses and adjusts the plan of care as needed to achieve optimal patient outcomes
• Participates in quality improvement initiatives to enhance veteran care and clinic operations
• Participates in division meetings - grand rounds - and interdisciplinary team activities Basic board certification(s) required as a condition of employment: Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) - Adult Nurse Practitioner (ANP) - Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) - Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AG-ACNP) - Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AG-PCNP) - and Gerontology Nurse Practitioner (GNP)
• The Tucson VA is a tertiary care facility providing a full range of clinical services including complex coronary angioplasty - electrophysiology - structural heart procedures - cardiac surgery - Mohs surgery - neurosurgery - navigational bronchoscopy and 24/7 STEMI services
• SAVAHCS has been a flagship quality provider within the VA and was a 2012 winner of the prestigious Robert W
• Carey Performance Excellence Award
• In the recently released CMS hospital ratings - we are a five-star facility
• We are in a growth area for the VA
• consequently - the VA is open to major capital investment in our facility
• We have a hybrid OR and are in the construction phase for expansions of Primary Care and Emergency Medicine
