Duties
- The Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) Certified Nurse Practitioner (NP) practices in Medicine Service to provide a full range of services emphasizing quality - timeliness - and the advancement of the Veterans Affairs (VA) mission
- The NP provides advanced clinical practice - consultation - and management
- The NP practices to the full extent of their education - training - and certification
- Core functions are outlined in the clinical privileges that correspond with this position
- The NP has prescriptive authority for a panel of patients or program as indicated by their position
- FUNCTIONS OF ASSIGNED DUTIES: The NP is a licensed independent practitioner with advanced education and national certification who provides evidence-based care for a population of patients
- Independently manages a panel of patients with acute and chronic neurological conditions with an emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention using evidence-based practice
- Develops and implements an individualized plan to achieve optimal population health and disease management
- Demonstrates leadership and works collaboratively with the neurology team
- Orders and interprets labs - tests - and diagnostic studies
- Prescribes pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions
- Initiates referrals and consults to specialty services
- Serves as consultant and provides resources to other departments within the medical center
- Provides education to patients and their families
- Assesses and adjusts the plan of care as needed to achieve optimal patient outcomes
- Participates in quality improvement initiatives to enhance veteran care and clinic operations
- Participates in division meetings - grand rounds - and interdisciplinary team activities Basic board certification(s) required as a condition of employment: Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) - Adult Nurse Practitioner (ANP) - Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) - Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AG-ACNP) - Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AG-PCNP) - and Gerontology Nurse Practitioner (GNP)
- The Tucson VA is a tertiary care facility providing a full range of clinical services including complex coronary angioplasty - electrophysiology - structural heart procedures - cardiac surgery - Mohs surgery - neurosurgery - navigational bronchoscopy and 24/7 STEMI services
- SAVAHCS has been a flagship quality provider within the VA and was a 2012 winner of the prestigious Robert W
- Carey Performance Excellence Award
- In the recently released CMS hospital ratings - we are a five-star facility
- We are in a growth area for the VA
- consequently - the VA is open to major capital investment in our facility
- We have a hybrid OR and are in the construction phase for expansions of Primary Care and Emergency Medicine
