Description
Summary
This position is located at Nashville VA in Nashville - TN. The Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) Certified Nurse Practitioner (NP) practices in the Cardiology Section of the Specialty Care Service to provide a full range of services emphasizing quality - timeliness - and the advancement of the Veterans Affairs (VA) mission. The NP provides advanced clinical practice - consultation - and management.
Duties
- The NP practices to the full extent of their education - training - and certification
- Core functions are outlined in the clinical privileges that correspond with this position
- The NP has prescriptive authority for a panel of patients or program as indicated by their position
- The NP is a licensed independent practitioner with advanced education and national certification who provides evidence-based care for a population of patients
- Major Duties: Uses advanced clinical judgement to independently provide evidence-based treatment to Veterans with Cardiac health conditions with an emphasis on using evidence-based practice
- Develops and implements an individualized plan to achieve optimal disease management
- Demonstrates leadership and works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team
- Orders and interprets labs - tests - and diagnostic studies
- Prescribes pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions
- Initiates referrals and consults to specialty services
- Provides education to patients and their families
- Assesses and adjusts the plan of care as needed to achieve optimal patient outcomes

- (NG61 Pay scale) Preferred Experience: Experience in managing patients with a variety of cardiac clinical issues - including but not limited to arrhythmias - heart failure - cardiac implantable electronic devices - and coronary artery disease
- Experience working in an outpatient cardiology clinic or similar environment
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high patient care standards
- Skill in recognizing and escalating care for patients with unstable or complex cardiovascular problems that require a higher level of care
- Strong clinical decision-making and critical thinking abilities
- Familiarity with using and interpreting cardiovascular diagnostic tools and imaging techniques such as EKG - echocardiography - and stress testing
- Strong organizational and time management skills to handle a busy outpatient clinic setting
