Statement of Purpose
The Clinical Director at Frontier Nursing University assures the effective implementation of the clinical experience for students and coordinates the clinical component of the assigned Department under the direction of the Department Chair. The Clinical Director is responsible for facilitating the role of the Regional Clinical Faculties (RCF) to provide academic engagement with the preceptors and the students on a regular basis during their clinical practicum. This academic engagement includes monitoring student progress during the clinical practicum and ensuring that the clinical practicum is a true integration of theory and practice which provides a high quality educational experience for each student.
Major Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities
- Assures the effective function of the clinical experience for students.
- Assures that all policies and procedures related to the clinical experience are implemented, adhered to, and are effective.
- Recommends new policies to the Department Chair as necessary.
- Collaborates with Chief Operations Officer to monitor compliance with state legislation related to RCF licensure requirements and state student compliance
- Recruits RCFs and makes hiring recommendations to the Department Chair and the Dean.
- Provides guidance to RCFs regarding policies and procedures for facilitating student success.
- Guides the RCFs to promote success for students.
- Assures that the RCFs are well-oriented to their responsibilities.
- Assists the RCFs in developing learning plans for students in need of intervention.
- Develops performance plans for students when indicated.
- Guides the Regional Clinical Faculty in fostering communication, implementing innovative plans, and problem solving any issues that may arise while a student is preparing or currently enrolled in clinical work.
- Collaborates with the Department Chairand faculty in the development of clinical courses and materials to enhance student learning.
- Develops and leads a program designed to recruit clinical preceptors and enhance their ability to function successfully in their role. Defines and implements strategies designed to improve preceptor and student satisfaction with the clinical experience.
- Assures the smooth and efficient placement of students in clinical sites.
- Collaborates with the Credentialing Office in the credentialing of clinical sites as necessary.
- Collaborates with the Office of Clinical Outreach and Placement as needed.
- Evaluates RCF performance annually.
- Participates in the annual Fall Faculty Meeting and Commencement
Requirements
Qualifications
- National certification in the specialty area(s) as either a nurse-midwife or nurse practitioner.
- Doctoral degree.
- A minimum of five years experience with clinical teaching of advanced practice nursing and/or midwifery students as appropriate.
