The Clinical Nurse C - Pediatric Dialysis Outpatient, is an experienced nurse and performs hemodialysis for pediatric patients with end stage renal disease with multiple comorbidities. Collaborates with nephrologists to ascertain patient compliance with treatment regime and educates patient and parents accordingly. Functions in a patient-centered care model of practice and performs the nursing process independently. Serves as a role model in patient care delivery methods and consistently demonstrates an advanced level of clinical practice, communication, and documentation. Ensures all pretreatment, intra-treatment, and post-treatment criteria are met, documented, and corresponding charges posted. Applies theoretical concepts to clinical practice and continually expands knowledge base and clinical skills with a focus in end-stage renal disease. Facilitates the empowerment of the nursing profession and embraces new knowledge, innovations and improvements in practice to enhance the patient experience and clinical outcomes. Functions in a skills mix environment and may be required to serve in shift coordinator role upon completion of shift coordinator orientation. Performs other duties as needed.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required. If hired into the CN-C position prior to December 31, 2022, an Associate Degree or Diploma Degree in Nursing is required. Minimum two years' of clinical nursing experience in dialysis required. Minimum two years' experience in pediatrics and/or pediatric dialysis preferred. Active California Registered Nurse (RN) license required. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Other as outlined in the department Plan for Providing Care. Must meet standards outlined in the Clinical Advancement Program handbook. New hires are granted one year to meet CN C standards outlined in the Clinical Advancement Program handbook.
In-depth knowledge of end-stage renal disease treatment modalities. Demonstrates advanced competencies in dialysis clinical nursing. Ability to apply theoretical concepts to clinical practice and continually expands knowledge base and clinical skills with a focus in dialysis. Basic knowledge of healthcare regulations and accreditation required. Exhibit professional behavior at all times. Able to: speak, read and write legibly in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position, e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, electronic medical record, electronic event reporting program; troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment; perform technical patient care activities; relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following and/or enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach, and collaborate; accept direction; think critically; work independently with minimal supervision; perform basic math and statistical functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; work well under pressure; problem solve; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail; distinguish colors and smells as necessary for patient care; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records, and written documents necessary to position; discern temperature variances through touch.
